August 1/2, 2015

This was the 4th trial of the 2015 season and we were back at a familiar place, Manzanita Park in Prunedale, CA.  We had a very large field used for several baseball fields, so our one ring trial only took up a small space.  Prunedale overlooks Moss Landing so gets lots of Pacific Ocean affected weather.  So, while the rest of the Bay Area was frying in 90 degree weather, we had it very pleasant, only going up into the high 70s.

The surface was grass only a few gopher holes.   Susan Graham was our judge.  She is quite popular with PASA, since she started out doing an apprenticeship at one of our trials.  The courses were fun and one, gamblers, in particular, gave us all something to think about.

Saturday night we held a pot luck event which Donna Highstreet organized.  PASA provided roast chicken and everyone else brought something to share.  There were rumors that the pumpkin "cake" was a big hit.  Adding to the festivities, was a "make your own" root beer float bar on Sunday afternoon.  Everyone can thank Warene Waters for that.

The weekend was a bit marred by the fact that some people had to withdraw because their dogs contracted a strain of kennel cough the week before.  We wish their dogs a speedy recovery and hope that no one 's dog caught it at our trial.  We would like to know if this happened.

July 11/12, 2015

This was the 3rd trial of the 2015 season and the first PASA trial to collect Qs towards the 2016 Nationals in Albany, Oregon.  It was held at the Solana County Fair Grounds in Vallejo, CA.  This was the first time at this site, so there were a few things that we didn't know to do (such as ask to have the gates open before 7 AM).   But in all, it went pretty smoothly.  Tracy Lovelis was originally our trial chair, with assistance from Jean Danver.  Tracy came down with a freak brain infection with sidelined her for this trial.  She is on her way to recovery and should step back into her role for the PASA September trial in the same site.  We also offered an additional gamblers on Saturday with the sign up at the trial.  Quite a few attendees took advantage of this.  However, it made for a very long day and required lots of extra work for the judge, chief course builder and our trial secretary.  PASA decided that it was an interesting experiment not something we want to do again soon.

PASA held a one ring event outdoors on grass.  The field was pretty good and was enclosed in a outdoor arena.  This actually made for a quite friendly atmosphere since we could all see everyone.    Having a grandstand also made for a great place to see all the action.

Gary Shipley was our judge.  He offered some fun and interesting courses that gave us a bit to think about.  The weather was perfect and, being July, the daylight lasted past the last dog to run.   We held NQ raffles both days, which was popular, as usual.

Five ATCHes were earned at this trial.  This made for quite a bit of excitement.  That many called for a group picture:

Laurie Preston and ATCH-II Pippin
Lori Walker and ATCH Finley

We had High in Trial Awards.  The competition was very close in the Novice & Veteran Championship divisions.  Both went down to the last jumpers run on Sunday before the winners were determined:

March 28/29

This was the second trial of the 2015 season.  It was held at the Stanislaus County Fair Grounds in Turlock.  This agility trial was held in conjunction with a large ASCA conformation, obedience and rally even put on by Delta ASC.  It was great seeing lots of old friends who are not agility participants and some old friends who were able to come because the location was closer than our Bay Area venues.  A lot of agility people took advantage of the other events as well.

PASA held a one ring event outdoors on grass.  There was quite a bit of gopher activity to deal with.  Somehow we managed to keep all the holes filled.   Susan Perry was our judge.  She is a lot of fun and likes to put a bit of challenge in her courses.  We held NQ raffles both days, which was popular, as usual.

Trial committee was:

The weather was rather warm and sunny, temperatures reaching into the 80s. Dogs took advantage of the pools we set out and everyone ended up in summer clothes before the end of the day.  We have High in Trial Awards.  The competition was very close in the Novice Championship division.  Two dogs tied in points.  They were Angus, Cynthia Downing's Aussie and Jamba, Helen Bauer's standard poodle.  Angus won in the regular yards per second tie breaker.

February 21/22

This was the first trial of the 2015 season.  It was held at our new favorite indoor facility, Thorson's Arena in San Martin.  Just to make us feel good there was ten minutes of rain on Sunday.   PASA also held two Obedience trials on Saturday and two rally trials on Sunday.  That worked out very well, so hopefully we can have more duel events in the future.

PASA held a one ring event which gave us lots of room in the two arenas for exercising and crating.    Ric Pittman was our judge.  He definitely contributed to everyone having a good time.  His courses were challenging and fun.  Everyone pitched in to help break down the regular ring before moving to Jumpers for the final 6 runs of the day.  We finished the trial & had everything loaded on the trailer by 5:30 pm.  Ric sure did a good job of keeping us going on Sunday.  This was the initial trial for Wombat Video service which Nicole Watts and her daughter, Ali had started.

Trial committee was:
Chair: Jean Danver
Grounds: Jean Danver
Awards: Warene Waters
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course Builders: Corrine Stewart & Susan Laursen
Equipment: Susan Laursen
Chief Ring Steward: Maralise Howze
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
Equipment Transportation: Jenny Hutchinson

The trial had six classes each day.  Two of each - Jumpers, Gamblers and Regular.  There were "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday .

The biggest cause for celebration was Nicole Watts and her bitch, Dervish,  earning their ATCH on Sunday morning on the second gamble.   Dervish needed four gamblers Qs for her ATCH and she got all four gambles.  What a dog.
