PASA is holding four agility trials in 2008.
March 22/23: Turlock Fair Grounds
May 17/18: Workin' Paws
August 2/3: Workin' Paws
October 11/12: Manzanita Park, Prunedale, CA

October 11/12

This trial was held at Manzanita Park in Prunedale, CA.  The grounds were a baseball field with nice grass and a view of Monterey Bay.  It was really quite nice and the weather was great, sunny, cool in the morning and warming up to the low 70s.  We were able to use a two ring set up.   We had about 280 runs a day.  This allowed us to have a pretty relaxing trial.  David Connet was are trial secretary and Jean Danver was trial chair, awards person & RV czar.  Erika Maurer was chief ring steward, Susan Laursen was the chief course builder, Marcia Hodes was scorekeeper.   Mona Nichols and Maggie Guthrie did a great job of keeping us all feed.   Liza Buckner & Gina Laursen stepped in as chief ring steward when Erika found herself stuck in the chicago airport.  Erika arrived just before the last elite run of the day.   Jason Meeks was the judge.  He provided some challenging runs, especially the gambles which had some tricky lines that tripped most of us up.

This was the last trial of the 2008 season so the results of the Silver Buckle contest were announced and awarded (See picture below).     Donna Highstreet's aussie, Star, earned her ATCH-SP on the first regular run Sunday and just to make sure, Qed the second one in grand style.

May 17/18

This trial was held in 90 degree heat  at Workin' Paws Ranch in Hollister.  There was a lot of competition and   we had about 65 less runs per day than usual.  This we were grateful for because of the heat.  Thanks to our trail secretary, David Connet and trial chair, Jean Danver for getting this trial going.  Thanks to Donna Highstreet, who filled in for the trial chair as she ran around to personal events and to Susan Laursen, chief ring steward and Dave Grubel, chief course builder.   All the course builders deserve an extra thank you for doing that job in the heat.

Carol Maslandsky was the judge.  She got to help us learn how to do our first one ring trial with two rings.    We had lots of items for the NQ raffles.   We were grateful that Workin' Paws had all the nice tubs and water sprayers to keep our dogs cool.

Just for fun, here is a little data.  The dogs with the most Qs were Chaps (Jean Danver) and Koda (Melissa Farquhar) at 9 a piece.   The fastest dog, on average, was Tahoe (Dave Grubel) who ran an average of 5.93 yards per second.  Who says that age slows you down.   The highest percentage dog was Annabelle (Liza Buckner) who Qed all 6 of the classes she entered.

Congratulations to our High in Trial Winners.   In the Junior Handler group,  Melissa Farguhar's Coda was the winner, only missing the last gamble in the entire trial.   The HIT veteran dog was Liza Buckner's Annabelle.  The Elite winner was Jean Danver's Chaps.  Donna Highstreet's Rubi was the Open winner and Maralise Howze's Jemima was the Novice winner.

March 28/29

This event was a pretty big deal.  Delta ASC was holding conformation shows  and PASA held three obedience shows at the same location.  So, a number of our competitors were running around to one or two more places.   Thanks to trial chair, Donna Highstreet and trial secretary, Dave Connet for a great trial.  The weather was on the cool side and partly cloudy and the atmosphere was very pleasant.   Our judge was the very popular, Sandra Katzen.  Her courses were fun with just the right challenge and the day went like clockwork.

The  trial was almost full.    We had "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday which were big hits, as usual.  The pot luck Saturday night with Delta ASC was awesome.
Congratulations to our ATCH-SP winner, Annette Dusa and Peyton.

High in Trial awards were given at this trial.  In the Veteran's group Dave Connet and his Aussie, Megan,  could almost do no wrong turning in a 9.5 for 10 weekend.   Deborah Ogg and her Corgi, Porsche, swept the Open group.  Junior Handler, Linnea Shorey,  arrived with her whippet, Buddie, just in time for the last class on Saturday and finished the day on Sunday with four Qs.  The excitement was in  Novice and Elite.  Both groups ended up with dogs tied in points.  In Novice,  Geri Lu Jurey and her Aussie, Rita, bested Patricia Fries and her Mini Aussie, Chance, in the time tie breaker.   Jean Danver and her Aussie, Chaps, had a 1 Q lead going into the 1st round of jumpers on Sunday only to  get confused on a tunnel entrance.   This gave Liza Buckner and her Aussie, Taiko,  a slight lead in time going into the last jumpers round.    The two dogs finished 1/2 in jumpers with Taiko winning by 2/10s of a second.

Liza Buckner & Taiko (Elite), Deborah Ogg & Porsche (Open), Linnea Shorey & Buddie (Jr. Handler), Geri Lu Jurey & Rita (Novice), Judge Sandra Katzen, Dave Connet & Megan (Veteran)
